Philippines Solidifies Status as Premier Global Retirement Hub

The Philippines has been honored at the 12th TripZilla Awards and ranked first in the 2026 Retirement Abroad Index, highlighting its excellence in retiree support and accessibility.

The Philippines has achieved significant recognition in the international travel sector, winning the 'Best Retiree Support Programme' at the 12th TripZilla Awards. Unlike many awards based on public polls, these winners were chosen through independent evaluations by industry experts. This accolade underscores the nation's growing reputation as a top-tier destination for those looking to settle in Southeast Asia.

Beyond the TripZilla honors, the country secured the top spot in the 2026 Retirement Abroad Index by Expatriate Group. This ranking evaluated 20 global destinations across five critical pillars: healthcare quality, visa accessibility, health insurance requirements, cost of living, and community integration. The Philippines outperformed competitors by offering a balanced lifestyle that combines affordability with a high quality of life.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay emphasized that the ranking reflects the country's commitment to welcoming foreign retirees. A cornerstone of this success is the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV), which provides a clear pathway for foreign nationals to enjoy long-term residence. With its stunning natural attractions and hospitable local communities, the Philippines continues to set a high standard for regional retirement programs.

If you are exploring Southeast Asia for long-term stays, compare the Philippines' SRRV program with Vietnam's current visa options to find the best fit for your lifestyle and budget.
