In an article titled "Ha Long Bay, Vietnam's natural wonder," Routard describes the UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the world's most spectacular landscapes, with more than 2,000 limestone islands and around 40 caves.
The guide says summer brings clearer skies and sunshine, while cooler autumn and winter weather creates a "mysterious atmosphere" as limestone formations emerge through the mist.
An overnight cruise is among its recommendations, with suggested activities including kayaking through Luon Cave, visiting Sung Sot Cave, climbing Ti Top Island for panoramic views and taking a bamboo boat to Vung Vieng fishing village in nearby Bai Tu Long Bay.
Beyond the bay, the guide points visitors to Bai Chay and Hon Gai for a broader experience of Ha Long's coastal life.
